I arrive in skopje, macedonia and kissed my bus mates goodbye. Later I learned that in their culture, if they see young women traveling alone, they sort of adopt her and take care of her.
I hopped in a cab for the price of 50 euros. At first I thought I was being gypped, but then I realized on the way that it is actually quite far away. We had to drive through mountains and many fields (sunflower!) to get there. On the way, the cab driver Vancho stopped to pick up ‘his woman’. I haven’t figured out yet why she came along for the ride…. But we said zdravo and were on our way.
Entering sveti nikole, I was greeted by yet more fields, animals, a few tractors and the road, and horse drawn wagons. Welcome to sveti nikole!
